Kerala is set to have its first interactive Malayalam
portal. Eka Internet Technologies Pvt Ltd, a Kochi-based company, has
launched puzha.com, a portal which, company director Thomas Theakanath
says, offers the first Malayalam literary magazine, quality local content,
Malayalam e-mail and a Malayalam audio station.
The portal with interactive features enables members to publish
literary and artistic works, all free of cost. Additional facilities
include putting up matrimonial ads, wedding announcements, obituaries and
news items. puzha.co, would come with freely downloadable software
support, an easy-to-use Malayalam word processor Chowara Ver.1 a Malayalam
text editor software, and proprietary font, which should enable
publication in Malayalam.
He said the intention was to give the Malayalee Net users an exciting
online experience in their own language. Steps would be taken to check the
authenticity of the information published. The audio station would have an
index and player of Malayalam audio clips available on the Net.
Besides Mr Theakanath, there are two more promoters, one based in the
US and the other in Mumbai. The company would also offer e-commerce
through the portal. He added that the company would use sophisticated and
secured payment gateways for international credit card users. It has also
tied up for cash-on-delivery services within the country.
As part of it marketing strategy, the company had entered into a tieup
with Elbee Services Ltd, a courier and parcel agency, for a gift scheme.
